Just thought I'd share with you my Chinese Lanterns. I planted these from seed 2 years ago. After I transplanted them to the outdoor garden they were not doing so well and I thought they died. Then this spring they popped up EVERYWHERE! And I realized they are killing all the other perennials so I had to pull them all out. But I saved some as decoration.


I've noticed significant growth in my Basil. They are growing their third set of leaves!


Borage, not doing so well. I keep telling my self to transplant, but I am so lazy to go buy soil.

Weird, I wasn't expecting garlic for a long time, but here they are.


Just thought I'd take some pictures of the Jasmine flower in my house. They are starting to flower for the second time this year.

Second week, after the drought

So I left my moonflower for a week, no water, only sun and this is what happened! It grew! I am astounded. This is wonderful, it doubled, maybe tripled in size while I was away.


I'm going to have to build a trellis for it soon, look at the vigorous vine it is growing!


My imitation greenhouse using a newspaper bag and elastic band. Thanks to this baby my borage didn't die, it concealed the moisture in so my lack of watering didn't kill the plant.

On a somber note, my basil plant is not doing so well. I have learned that basil NEEDS water. A week without it and this is what happens. I will do all that is humanly possible to revive my friend, hopefully my efforts will pay off.

Pictures of my plants

My borage plants, sowed them from seed a week ago and they are already bigger than my basil seedlings which I planted in April. I blame it on the weather around here, it is too cold for my basil.


From the side. They are about 1.5" tall in the picture, now the tallest is around 2-2.5 inches.


Pole I set up where I would drape plastic wrap over the pot to imitate a greenhouse.



My ginger plant. Not visible yet, but I know it's there. How do I know this? Well I heard it took a month for ginger to sprout or something like that so I thought there mustn't be any growth yet, and fearing the soil was too shallow I tried to dig the root out to replant it deeper only to find little teeth like sprouts growing out of it so I stopped digging and just added some more soil on top to increase the depth.


These are my newly discovered moonflowers, I started them from seeds just a little over a week ago and look how big they've grown!

This is my lovely grown up basil plant. I bought it for $2.99 at a grocery store. I thought my own basil were growing TOO slowly. I do not have pictures of my basil now. But they are only 1" tall and they were planted in April, more than 4 months ago!

First day

Today I am starting my blog about gardening. Right now I am focusing my energy on these plants: Moonflower, Borage, Ginger, Basil, Garlic.

Moonflower - big flowers that bloom at night
Borage - herb with a fresh cucumber scent
Ginger - tropical plant harvested for its root
Basil - very popular herb
Garlic - a member of the onion family used commonly in cooking

I don't know if I can handle so many plants since I am a beginner at this, only time will tell.
